Middle School/Jr. High Team Tennis

Idaho (Bannock, Bingham, Bonneville, Jefferson & Madison Counties)

First practice: April 7th
Final match: May 17th
Post Season Tournaments: week of May 19th

Program Details:

Practices
- Weekday evenings (most likely M/W). *Practice times/locations will be finalized once registration is closed.
- Duration: 1 hour
- 12 scheduled practices, with 10 guaranteed. If more than two practices are canceled due to weather, make-up sessions will not be provided.
Matches
- Saturday, time TBD
Location
- Local High School and City Courts (locations are subject to change).
All teams will be capped at 18 players, with a waitlist included. If a team is full, parents may either register for the next closest team or join the waitlist. However, there's no guarantee that those waitlisted will be on the team. Teams with low registration numbers will be combined with other nearby teams.

What is Middle School /Jr. High Team Tennis?

Idaho Youth Tennis (IYT) Middle School Team Tennis is an opportunity for boys and girls grades 5-9 to participate in after-school team tennis. Players of all levels and experience are encouraged to come have fun with their friends. Whether you are an advanced player seeking more opportunities to compete or a novice seeking to learn tennis, IYT Middle School Team Tennis has something for everyone.

Teams practice 2 times per week after school and play a match each week against another team. There is no tryout to participate on the team, everyone is welcome.

How do the competitive matches work?

Match competition formats are similar to high school tennis competitions. Each team has a varsity squad, a JV squad, and an exhibition squad.

The varsity squad consists of the top 8 players. The varsity squad of one team will play against the varsity squad of another team in the following format: 1st Singles, 2nd Singles, 1st Doubles, 2nd Doubles, 3rd Doubles.
The JV squad consists of the next top 8 players. The format for JV is the same for varsity.
The exhibition squad consists of the next group of players, and they play doubles matches against the exhibition squad of the other team.
If your child would like to participate with the team at practice, but would rather not play competitive matches that is fine.

At the end of the season, the teams and players will compete in post-season tournaments.

Who are the coaches and directors?

Each team has its own coach that runs practices and matches and is in charge of player placement and development. The coaches are hired from a pool of local tennis coaches and competitive tennis players. Only the best candidates are selected. There are also paid and volunteer assistant coaches who help the kids throughout the season. If you're interested in helping out as a coach click HERE to apply and for more info. Alicia Matsuura is the Managing Director of IYT Southeastern Idaho and Rob Allen is the Executive Director of IYT. He is a USPTA Nationally certified professional tennis instructor and the head tennis coach at Provo High School. Click HERE for more info about Rob.

All coaches are independent contractors, screened and contracted by IYT to coach and run their respective teams.
